Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a disease that can affect both the ovaries and the tubes, causing fertility problems. In many women the diagnose is established during the infertility investigation. Medical and/or surgical treatment is offered and the couple usually is advised to try to become pregnant on their own. When the patient comes to us at IVF Öresund she has usually had relapses of endometriosis. We believe that an active treatment of the endometriosis will lead to improved results in the IVF-treatment. We offer medical treatment with depot-therapy (e.g. Decapeptyl Depot) and empty the endometriotic cysts by puncture through the vaginal wall. There is no need to undergo general anaesthesia or take a sick leave as the method is lenient and there is no risk of removing healthy ovarian tissue. This conservative attitude improves the chances of success in IVF.
